Three years of escalating war in Ukraine
24 February 2025 marks three years since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Every day, the war causes not only visible destruction but also leaves deep scars in society that could affect generations to come. “I was terrified to give birth at night because I knew the ambulance wouldn't come. Vehicles didn’t drive at night, and if they did, they could be shot at,” shares Maryna, a mother who gave birth in the early days of the invasion, when the city of Chernihiv was heavily bombed. UNFPA — the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency — is calling for an end to violence in Ukraine as we work toward a future where all women and girls can live in safety and dignity.
