Gender-responsive family policies at the national level are crucial to support women and men to have the choices they want, and the capabilities to act on these, when it comes to their career and family. However, many family policies in the region are often still too maternalistic and are based on harmful gender norms, roles and stereotypes which may limit women's participation in the labor force and men's share of the unpaid care work. This repository of best practices and case study from Sweden, Estonia and Slovenia provides some concrete examples of how national policies can be improved to expand choices for women and men, and support more equal and prosperous societies.
