For girls and boys around the world, adolescence is a remarkable period of development and change; what teenagers experience during these years can shape the direction of their lives and that of their families.
Though adolescence brings with it incredible opportunities and potential, the mere onset of puberty that occurs during this period also marks a time of heightened vulnerability -- to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), to early marriage and early pregnancy, and to sexual exploitation, coercion and violence.
The latest edition of Entre Nous, the European magazine for sexual and reproductive health, focuses on the health and well-being of adolescents and young people in Europe. Developed to launch in conjunction with the WHO Regional Office for Europe’s new child and adolescent health strategy, 'Investing in children: The European child and adolescent health strategy 2015-20', the magazine's 80th issue features articles and experiences from the region demonstrating that investment in adolescents and youth has far-reaching benefits -- not only on individual behaviour and lifestyle, but also on the stability and prosperity of communities as a whole.
