The UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, today took part in the Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) Global Advisory Group meeting in Belgrade, Serbia, where the Envoy is currently on official mission.

During the gathering, Alhendawi briefed the Y-PEER members about his role, the United Nations’ common strategy on youth – the System-Wide Action Plan (SWAP) – and stressed the importance of the World Programme of Action for Youth as a guide for the UN’s work with and for young people.

Noting the importance of having the Y-PEER network advocating for human rights, the Envoy said “We will continue to partner with Y-PEER, and I encourage you to reach out to more youth, especially marginalized youth.”

Later in the day, the Envoy met with the UN country team to discuss their work with and for young people in Serbia, as well as their work plan on youth for 2014. The Envoy also briefed colleagues on the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development, as well as the SWAP. Alhendawi will also meet with the Serbian Ministry of Youth to discuss the UN’s national youth programme.
