To recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face realizing them, the United Nations General Assembly in 2011 passed a resolution adopting 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child. This year, UNFPA’s Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia marked the date by checking in with some of the girls featured at the pivotal age of 10 as part of the State of World Population 2016 launch. This video features Azize, age 14, the only girl in her family of seasonal agricultural workers in Turkey. Azize shoulders a lot of responsibility at home. She works hard at her studies, and wishes everyone could have the same opportunities in life.
