Kyrgyzstan’s education system was assessed in 2021 and 2022. The assessment highlighted that, despite Kyrgyzstan’s favourable legal framework, students have limited access to sexuality education, with none provided to children aged 5–8. Although optional extracurricular lessons are available for older students, there is a clear need for a new compulsory programme. The existing healthy lifestyle education programme has considerable gaps, especially in teaching responsible sexual behaviours, critical analysis of social and gender norms, and skills to prevent gender inequality and unwanted sexual contact.
