ISTANBUL/LONDON, 7 April 2025 – UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, and Dr Louise Newson, the founder of Newson Health and balance app, a leading menopause-tracker and women’s health platform, announced a new partnership today.
The aim of the partnership is to bring medically-accurate and evidence-based information on menopause to more women around the world, including in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.
“With this exciting new partnership we are hoping to help empower women to navigate menopause and break the stigma and misinformation around a life event that happens to over half of the population but is still shrouded in myths and taboos,” said Florence Bauer, UNFPA’s Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
“My mission has always been to bring more information about menopause, perimenopause and hormone health to women across the world. Women’s health has long been underfunded and under researched – our partnership with the UNFPA is an important new step in making sure all women have access to evidence-based information and education on hormones, especially during perimenopause and menopause, which are, so often and for so many, unnecessarily complex and misleading”, said Dr. Louise Newson, menopause specialist and founder of balance app
The first set of jointly developed content pieces launched on the app today includes information on issues such as menopause symptoms, hormones, contraception, and cervical cancer. More joint content is planned under this partnership, adding to the approximately 465 free articles already available on the app.
The balance app allows users to track their symptoms, create a personalised health report, and get access to the world’s largest menopause library, across multiple languages. balance has been downloaded nearly 1.5 million times, across 222 countries and territories, and is the first menopause app to be certified by ORCHA, the leading digital health organisation.
UNFPA works in over 150 countries worldwide toward the goal of universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights throughout the life course, promoting gender equality and empowering women, girls and young people to take control of their bodies and their futures. The organisation partners with several mobile apps to make sexual and reproductive health information accessible for all.
