Moldova to host regional training centre on improving reproductive health services

calendar_today 24 May 2013

The government of Moldova agreed to host a regional training centre tasked with promoting standardized reproductive health services in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

In a letter signed during the visit of UNFPA’s Regional Director, Werner Haug, to Chisinau on 15 May, Moldova’s Minister of Health, Andrei Usatii, welcomed the planned establishment of the training centre and stressed that improving the quality of health services, including through regulation and standardization, is a priority for the Moldovan government.

The centre will train Russian-speaking health specialists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Ukraine on developing and implementing clinical protocols aimed at ensuring standardized high-quality reproductive health services in hospitals and clinics. It will be one of three training hubs to be established in the region.

The four trainers who will run the courses participated in a master class held at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the United Kingdom last November.

The first training course will take place on 12-19 October 2013.

The training centre was initiated by UNFPA in partnership with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the World Health Organization, and the Romania-based East European Institute for Reproductive Health.
