Ministerial dialogue 3: GENDER EQUALITY & FAMILY-FRIENDLY POLICIES

We need to look at gender equality if we are to understand demographic resilience and population dynamics. Gender equality affects how people live, how they make decisions about their families, careers and their well-being. It is a prerequisite for the health and development of families and societies, a driver of economic growth and a key contributor to sustainable development. Family-friendly policies in the workplace lead to an increase in the number of employed women, more active participation by men in housework and caregiving, and other benefits for families and societies.

This session will look at how to fill policy gaps and change gender stereotypes, norms and roles. We will look at how men can become more engaged in their families and share in domestic responsibilities. And we will ask - how can we create policies suited to the families people have or aspire to?
