UNFPA Report Describes Impact and Opportunities Of Human History’s Largest Population of Young People; Global Launch 18 November

ISTANBUL - A new report by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, shows how young people are key to economic and social progress in developing countries and describes what must be done to realize their full potential.

The State of World Population 2014, The Power of 1.8 Billion: Adolescents, Youth and the Transformation of the Future, released globally at 0001 hours (12:01 a.m.) GMT on 18 November, also provides the latest trends and statistics on adolescent and youth populations worldwide.

UNFPA’s flagship publication is being released on the same day in Berlin, Geneva, The Hague, London, Madrid, New York, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Washington, D.C. and many other cities worldwide. It will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

In Eastern Europe and Central Asia, national launch events will take in most countries of the region, often in conjunction with a regional youth-led campaign aimed at ensuring that youth issues are reflected in the future development agenda at national and global levels.

On 18 November at 12:15 p.m. Istanbul time, young people from across the region will come together via video link to hear about the Report’s key messages and present their priorities. Video of the event will be available at https://eeca.unfpa.org/news/power-18-billion.
