Join the Fight Against Cervical Cancer in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

About the Cause:

Cervical cancer is a silent threat that affects thousands of women across Eastern Europe and Central Asia every year. In this region, the rates of cervical cancer are up to 10 times higher than in Western Europe, resulting in over 32,000 new cases and 16,000 deaths annually. The primary reasons behind this alarming disparity are a lack of effective organized screening programmes, limited access to advanced screening technologies, and low screening participation.

To accelerate action to prevent cervical cancer, UNFPA has launched the Regional Alliance for Cervical Cancer Prevention in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The alliance is a collaborative platform that unites governments, healthcare leaders, academic institutions, technical experts, and the private sector from 17 countries and territories in the region to drive progress in cervical cancer prevention. It consists of the Steering Committee, the Secretariat, and three Technical Committees - HPV Vaccination (55 members), Cervical Screening (84 members), and HPV Screening (97 members). With the alliance's focus on knowledge-sharing, resource pooling, and strategic coordination, we aim to make a tangible impact on women's health in the region.
