UNFPA is hiring a consultant to provide expert support for communications in Russian. See attached terms of reference for more information.

Purpose of consultancy: The Consultant – Communications Specialist (Russian language) contributes to generating visibility around UNFPA programmes and campaigns among Russian-language audiences.

Scope of work (Description of services, activities, or outputs):

●    Translate and edit content for use on the Russian language website and social media channels
●    Coordinate with requesting units and service providers the quality translation of reports, stories, statements and other materials
●    Facilitate the sharing of Russian language communication materials with UNFPA Country Offices in the region  
●    Build and maintain a list of Russian language journalists with an interest in population issues, gender equality and sexual and reproductive health
●    Analyse social media use among UNFPA target audiences and develop recommendations with a view to establishing Russian language social media channels  
●    Set up and manage regional Russian language online channels
●    Support regional communications work as required, with a focus on programmes implemented in countries where Russian is spoken
●    Other related tasks as required

Duration and working schedule: May 2022 - 31 December 2022 on full time basis.

Place where services are to be delivered: Remote working arrangement.

Delivery dates and how work will be delivered (e.g. electronic, hard copy etc.): The work will generally be delivered electronically, via email and online, based on the deadlines agreed in advance.

Monitoring and progress control, including reporting requirements, periodicity format and deadline: The supervisor will set milestones and deadlines and monitor progress on an ongoing basis.

Supervisory arrangements: The Consultant will report directly to the UNFPA Regional Communications Adviser, who will provide direction and guidance, certify delivery of outputs and evaluate performance.

Expected travel: None foreseen.

Required expertise, qualifications and competencies, including language requirements:

The consultant should have the following educational background, qualifications and expertise:

Education:

●    University degree (or equivalent) in communications, journalism, or related disciplines

Experience:

●    Minimum five years of experience as a journalist or in corporate communications
●    Solid and demonstrable experience in social media writing and engagement
●    Previous experience with the UN and familiarity with the topics of gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and demographic change are considered strong assets
●    Excellent communication and writing skills
●    Initiative and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds

Language Requirements: Fluency in Russian and in English

Other:

●    Excellent computer skills and ability to use information technology as a tool and resource
●    Initiative, strong conceptual and analytical abilities, sound judgement, strong interest in development work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the principles of the United Nations

Inputs/services to be provided by UNFPA or implementing partner (e.g. support services, office space, equipment), if applicable: Consultant to possess required equipment, internet access and communication means to perform the work remotely.
