Fostering Resilience: Tackling Gender-Based Violence in the Digital Realm
.

Gender Based Violence (GBV) remains pervasive globally, rooted in gender inequalities and power imbalances that favor men over women and people with diverse gender identities. As technology advances, this violence has expanded to technology and online spaces, insidiously targeting individual women and undermining efforts to achieve gender equality.

Technology devices and online platforms have become spaces where GBV goes unchecked. Women face personal attacks that are often gendered and sexualized in nature, including cyberstalking, online harassment or image-based sexual abuse. More subtly, women and girls confront gendered disinformation and hatred campaigns designed to limit their use of technology and their participation in public and political life through online communities.

This online side event to the Beijing+30 Regional Review Meeting brings together a panel of experts to explore the role of misogynistic online communities and gendered disinformation in the wider backlash against gender equality and identify effective strategies and policies to counteract them.
