UNFPA engagement in middle-income countries (MICs) in the framework of the next Strategic Plan 2014-17

The topic of UNFPA engagement with/in MICs has become ever more relevant in the context of developing the next UNFPA Strategic Plan 2014-2017. UNFPA has to identify lessons from application of the Strategy toward MICs since 2010. The Fund will also have to make further choices about how to strategically engage with MICs in the dynamic   environment;   what value added such engagement would generate for advancing the ICPD beyond 2014 and post-2015 agendas; and how such engagement will be resourced and sustained in the medium- to long-term perspective.   Flexible and innovative approaches will be required, recognizing the remaining vulnerabilities, as well as growing capabilities and ambitions of the MICs.

The MICs meeting will take place on 27-29 November, 2012, in Istanbul. It will be hosted by EECARO. The UNFPA participants will include Representatives of selected country offices (COs) operating in MICs and relevant staff members from the regional offices (ROs).
