Suggested Indicators for the Monitoring of National Sexual and Reproductive Health Programmes

Technical Reports and Document

This publication defines monitoring indicators to track the implementation of the national Sexual and Reproductive Health Programmes and Action Plans. It provides countries with a harmonized approach to the national monitoring frameworks, drawing on indicators from existing monitoring frameworks such as the Global indicator framework for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the UNECE Monitoring Framework for the ICPD Programme of Action (ICPD+25) and the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (2016-2030), thereby limiting the creation of new indicators and need for duplicate monitoring. It includes the shortlist of SRH indicators, their definitions and potential data sources and the methodology to select the indicators.

The impact of COVID-19 on sexual and reproductive health in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Technical Reports and Document

Since the World Health Organization first reported the emergence of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, countries around the globe have been debating, developing and implementing measures to interrupt the transmission of COVID-19. These include measures such as testing, tracing, self-isolating, issuing shelter-in-place orders, and reorganizing health-care services. These measures could potentially have a profound impact not only in social and economic terms but also on sexual and reproductive health (SRH). While there is a growing body of literature examining the impact of COVID-19 on SRH, there is currently a dearth of data from the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region. This study was therefore commissioned by the UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECARO) to fill this research gap. The continuity of SRH services is one of the priorities of the COVID-19 Pandemic UNFPA Global Response Plan.

Ukraine Emergency Situation Report #12 – 6 September 2022

Situation Report

Security conditions in Ukraine’s east and south continue to worsen, resulting in 330,000 people newly displaced inside the country in the last month. The estimated number of internally displaced people has risen to 6.9 million, and more than 7 million refugees are recorded in European countries.

UNFPA continues to support survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) in Ukraine and neighbouring countries. Three Survivor Relief Centres located in Zaporizhzhia, Lviv and Dnipro have helped around 1,200 internally displaced people and GBV survivors in the last two months.

On International Youth Day (12 August), UNFPA released a video to illustrate the vital role young people play in the emergency response and recovery efforts in Ukraine. UNFPA supported “Energy of your future” youth camps that help teenagers cope with trauma and plan for the future. In Moldova, UNFPA supported “Know the Country that Hosts You Tours” with the National Youth Council and facilitated peer-to-peer learning on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and GBV.

UNFPA continues to partner with the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) to support the institutional and operational needs of national civil society organizations and service providers in Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia that are providing SRH and GBV assistance and information to hundreds of refugees from Ukraine.
